Ms. Alvarez is the psychologist on staff for First Havana’s mission program, “Your Friendly Telephone,” a free hotline and walk-in consultation service at the church open to everyone, children to seniors. The program celebrated its 20th anniversary in May 2015. It is the only program of its kind in Cuba-and as far as we know-in Latin America offering a free, church-run, professional hotline service. Ms. Alvarez also developed and is leading First Havana’s “School for the Elderly,” a program of movement, dance, and socializing for church and neighborhood seniors.
