SUMMARY:Renewing the Micah 6:8 Banners
DESCRIPTION:He has shown you\, O mortal\, what is good.\nAnd what does the Lord require of you?\nTo act justly and to love mercy\nand to walk humbly with your God.\n\nThese words Micah 6:8 have long been NYAPC’s unofficial statement of faith and mission\, wrapped up in one poetic verse. So much so that years ago\, we hung banners with these words on both sides of our building. In fact\, many of us have stories of people noticing the banners\, of friends and visitors who say “that’s what I want a church to stand for.”\n\nFrom time to time\, these banners need repair! Wear and tear have damaged the banners and brackets\, and one had to be removed. Replacing them is not in our 2026 budget\, but what better time for our church to refresh these banners\, these words\, for anyone who passes by?\n\nCan you help? Communications Manager Kirstin Beck has found a vendor to replace the banners and install new\, reinforced brackets. And we already have $3500 pledged toward an estimated cost of $13\,000. \n\nIf 20 people give $500 each\, or if 40 give $250 each\, we’ll have what we need\, but that is not in everyone’s budget. All gifts are valued: Some will give less\, so we ask those who can to give more.\n\nTo donate\, send a check with “banner fund” in the memo line or choose “banner fund” in the online giving drop down menu. If we are so fortunate to have more than we need\, the money will go toward other signage that makes our church more welcoming and visible to all.\n\nThank you!\n\nnyapc.Give Now

SUMMARY:No Kings Protest
DESCRIPTION:On Palm Sunday\, we remember Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey — a deliberate act of prophetic theater that subverted the imperial processions of his day. In the Reformed tradition\, faithful witness has always included speaking truth to earthly power\, recognizing that our ultimate allegiance belongs to God alone. \nThis Palm Sunday\, you are invited to join the “No Kings” protest as an act of worship and public discipleship\, embodying the same conviction that greeted Jesus: that no earthly ruler holds the authority that belongs to God. Join friends as we march across the Memorial Bridge to Washington\, DC\, past the Lincoln Memorial\, and on to the Washington Monument. \nNYAPC friends will meet at the Arlington Cemetery Metro platform at 9:45 am. Look for Pastor Sarah wearing her NYAPC blue t-shirt. We invite those coming to the protest with NYAPC to also wear their NYAPC t-shirt\, if they have one. \nLearn More

SUMMARY:Palm Sunday Worship
DESCRIPTION:On Palm Sunday\, we step into one of the most dramatic moments in the Gospel story. With palm branches in hand\, we join the crowd lining the road into Jerusalem\, caught up in the tension between the world’s longing for liberation and its resistance to the kind of King Jesus turns out to be. We wave our palms not merely as a gesture of remembrance\, but as an act of confession: that we\, too\, cry “Hosanna!” and must reckon with what we are really asking for. Come wave palms\, hear the story\, and enter together the week that changes everything. \nWorship begins at 10 am in the Sanctuary. All are welcome. No registration is required.

SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday & Good Friday Worship
DESCRIPTION:The night before his arrest\, Jesus gathered his disciples for a final meal and gave them a new commandment: “Love one another.” Join us in the Radcliffe Room for a combined Maundy Thursday and Good Friday in-person only worship service.  \nThis interactive\, community-based worship will gather us around tables for a light meal as we share in the retelling of Jesus’ final meal with his disciples through prayer\, song\, and reflection. During this service\, we will continue the story through Good Friday\, walking with Jesus from the table to the cross\, sitting with the weight of his suffering and death\, and trusting that even there\, God is present. \nIn-person worship only. Free street parking is available around the church.

SUMMARY:Easter Worship
DESCRIPTION:Christ is risen! – and with him\, the world is made new. On Easter Sunday\, we gather to proclaim what the empty tomb declares: that sin and death does not have the final word. Free street parking is also available around the church\, including the median on New York Avenue. \nIf you are joining from home\, the service will be livestreamed at nyapc.org/livestream. \nIf you have kids\, after Worship\, join us for an Easter Scavenger Hunt! No sign-up is necessary; all kids can participate in the fun. Gather with us in the Children & Youth room on the second floor. Bring your friends and family along to share in the excitement! SUMMARY:Help Our Neighbors Get IDs
DESCRIPTION:Our partners at the Washington Interfaith Network are calling on DC DHS and DMV to remove barriers that keep unhoused and housing-insecure neighbors from getting a DC ID. Access to housing\, employment\, banking\, benefits\, and other basic services often depends on having an ID\, yet proof-of-residency requirements still make that difficult for many residents. Add your name to the petition and urge the city to act. Help us reach our goal of 500 signatures! \nSign Petition

SUMMARY:Congregations and Our Unhoused Neighbors: Rising to Meet the Moment
DESCRIPTION:Rosanne Haggerty is President of Community Solutions\, one of the most important national organizations that is working to reduce and eventually end homelessness.  She will speak at a community convening at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in downtown Washington\, DC at 10:00 AM EDT on Saturday\, April 18. This 90 minute program is co-sponsored by the Washington Interfaith Network (WIN) and will also be available as a webinar for those who cannot attend in person. Ms. Haggerty will provide an inspirational vision of how we can meet the needs of all of our unhoused neighbors and challenge congregations and individuals to be involved in this work in new and more effective ways.  Faith leaders will share basic information on homelessness in our community and there will be time for questions and feedback from those in attendance. \nAfter this morning meeting\, there will be a luncheon workshop from Noon to 2 PM for those who are interested in working with Ward 2 congregations in Washington\, DC on some new cooperative efforts in the downtown area.  Representatives of the congregations taking action to help unhoused people will share information on their work and interact with Rosanne Haggerty to plan the best way to engage people and have an impact in the community.  A free lunch will be served and so it is important to know how many will attend. If you want to attend the workshop\, please choose the registration option that signs you up for the luncheon meeting as well as the general convening at 10:00 AM.    \nRegister here
