SUMMARY:Christmas Poinsettia Dedications
DESCRIPTION:Embrace the spirit of Christmas by participating in our beautiful Christmas Flower Dedication tradition. The Deacons arrange these blossoms in the Sanctuary\, providing a touching way to honor or remember those who hold a special place in your heart. No matter the contribution amount\, your dedication is a heartfelt gesture. \nAs part of our Christmas celebration\, we’ll recognize your thoughtful contribution by listing your name in the bulletin on December 21 & 24\, allowing the entire congregation to share in your tribute. \nMoreover\, the Deacons extend the festive spirit beyond the Sanctuary. We are seeking volunteers to help distribute these lovely Christmas plants to members who are homebound or hospitalized\, as well as others within our congregation. If you can lend a hand with this act of kindness\, please indicate your availability on the form. \nFor any inquiries or further assistance\, don’t hesitate to reach out to Kirstin. \nSubmit your Poinsettia Dedication here. \nYou can also submit a dedication using a physical form on Sunday\, which can be found at the Usher stations. \nAll Christmas Poinsettia Dedications are due by December 7. Let’s make this Christmas truly special and memorable\, together.

SUMMARY:Adult Conversation Hour: "Seven Compelling Bob Dylan Songs"

He has written over 600 songs\, won countless awards\, and even received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016. His words and music have shaped generations\, offering both sharp cultural critique and surprising glimpses of the spiritual. As Dylan himself once sang\, “he not busy being born is busy dying.” \nOn October 12 and 19 at 9:00 am in the Docherty Center on the first floor\, we will listen to and talk about seven Dylan songs you probably haven’t heard before. SUMMARY:Peace & Global Witness Offering
DESCRIPTION:That wise observer\, Anonymous\, has written\, “To the people who grew up in chaos\, peace is easily mistaken for boredom.” \nFriends\, as you know\, we are currently living amidst chaos\, and in this time each of us can be captured by the temporary attractions of revenge and aimless anger. Just what does peace look like in a time like this? \nIn John’s gospel\, Jesus proclaims\, “Peace I leave with you\, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.” Clearly the peace that Jesus offers is more than simply the absence of war. It’s rather an active\, generative\, imaginative source of creation’s flourishing. It is the antithesis of boredom! \nWe collect the PC(USA) Peace and Global Witness Offering on World Communion Sunday (October 5). In some ways\, this offering marks a recognition that\, by ourselves\, we can’t co-create with God a vital peace — a peace that builds\, not tears down. We try to do our part in our corner of God’s world\, and we also must partner with and support those doing the hard work of peacemaking elsewhere. In this way\, worldwide communion becomes global witness. \n\nHalf of our offering supports the work of Presbyterians worldwide to foster a living peace\,\nOne quarter goes to presbyteries and synods to unite congregations in peacemaking\, and\nOne quarter remains with NYAPC to support the peacemaking ministries\, global and local\, that have captured our attention and passion.\n\nHere\, our gifts support the Washington Interfaith Network\, Churches for Middle East Peace\, Presbyterian Churches in Iraq\, the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship and other efforts. See what God can do through us! \nSo don’t be misled. Peace\, the peace of Christ\, which we are told passes all understanding\, is not a static\, passive thing. It is alive in the world if we can only glimpse its presence in our midst and claim it in our lives and in our giving. \nDonating to the Peace and Global Witness Offering is one tangible way to be part of the most un-boring adventure in this world. \nYou can give online at nyapc.org/give or place your gift in the Offering Plate\, marked “P&G Offering.” \nThank you for helping bring Christ’s peace into a chaotic world.
